Sanchez has been the rare shining light in a mostly underwhelming season for Arsenal, who are currently 6th in the Premier League and hold an outside chance of securing a Champions League place.

Yet Arsenal’s on-field problems have been compounded by the Chilean international’s hesitance to sign a new contract, causing much speculation and rumours over potential transfers in the summer.

His latest comments, however, leave us with more questions than answers.

“The two of us (Sanchez and Arsene Wenger) will sit down together to discuss the topic in terms of what will happen and what we are going to do, what is best for the club, what is best for me, what is best for him.”

Sanchez has insisted that his immediate priorities are with Arsenal to fight for the FA Cup and Champions League qualification, but his ambitions become slightly loftier when speaking candidly about his career.

“When I got here, I thought, ‘I will win the title with this squad’. I feel disappointed that we are not in a position to win the Premier League or Champions League.”

“I think that if a player wants to be at the very top, he needs to win the Champions League and League titles. That’s what makes the great players truly great.”

Sanchez has enjoyed several trophies throughout his career, including an FA Cup with his current club, a La Liga title with Barcelona and two Copa America’s with his national side, but feels that time may be running out to capture football’s elite accolades as he approaches his thirties.

It suffices to say that a rumoured £55 million bid from Bayern Munich would more than tempt Arsenal’s top-scorer. Sanchez won’t be short of options should his disgruntlement at Arsenal force him away from the club, as Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea are all interested in his services.
