Spanish striker Alvaro Morata is in line for an early return from a hamstring problem and could start in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League clash with AS Roma on Wednesday night.
The former Real Madrid man was spotted training with the rest of the Chelsea squad after their upset loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend, per Chelsea’s official Twitter account.
Alvaro Morata was diagnosed by Spain’s national team doctors with a myofascial injury to his hamstring, ruling him out for approximately four to six weeks.
However, the Spaniard appears to have recovered in time to at least appear on the bench against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League, meaning he will have come back from injury in less than three weeks – well under the initial estimate.
One aspect of Morata’s return which could be worrying for Chelsea is the lack of depth in attack should injury rear its unwanted head once again; Michy Batshuayi is still an unknown quantity to Antonio Conte having started just three times in the Premier League since signing from Marseille in 2016, while there are no other recognised senior strikers in the squad.
