Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez could be on his way to The Emirates after a meeting between the two clubs.
The Foxes are holding out for £50 million for the Algerian, but Arsenal are hesitant to offer anything more than £35 million, especially aftering splashing out a club-record fee for Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette.
Riyad Mahrez’s stock has dropped considerably since the end of the 2015/16 campaign, when Leicester City lifted the Premier League title and he was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
In the summer of 2016, clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid were being quietly mentioned by certain media outlets and, given his performances that season, seemed viable options.
But an underwhelming 2016/17 season saw Leicester City slump down the table, as did Mahrez’s form for a majority, leaving The Foxes in a slightly less desirable situation in regard to getting the best value out of the sale of the Algerian.
While Riyad Mahrez’s future club remains uncertain, he almost surely will not be playing in the colours of Leicester City next season after handing in a transfer request in May.
