Athletic Bilbao are aiming to renew the contract of Spanish winger Inaki Williams after reported interest from European heavyweights, according to Mundo Deportivo.
With the likes of Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool monitoring the 23-year-old, Athletic Bilbao will try to add an €80 million release clause for the Bilbao-born forward.
Inaki Williams currently has a €50 million release clause attached to his contract, which expires in 2021, but Athletic Bilbao officials don’t believe this figure accurately reflects his qualities.
Williams, who is now a full-fledged Spain international after debuting for La Roja in May 2016, was flattered by the news that top-tier European clubs had been paying close attention to him last summer.
“That big teams are interested in you or you can see yourself linked to them, you like it, it’s a sign that you’re doing well,” said Inaki Williams to Spanish newspaper Diario AS.
“I don’t know what I’m worth. The president put that clause and what has to come will come.”
Athletic Bilbao are known to be extremely hesitant to sell key players and only do so in situations where it is both absolutely necessary and they are amply compensated.
The versatile forward has added two goals and three assists in eight La Liga appearances for Athletic Bilbao this term, who sit in 11th position after three wins, two draws and three losses.
