Chelsea will look to move on quickly after a penalty shootout loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Antonio Conte named a familiar looking line-up – barring the exclusion of injured Eden Hazard and soon-to-be ex-Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Michy Batshuayi was given his chance to impress after almost an entire season spent on the bench, while Blues fans would have to wait a little while longer for the full debut of record-signing Alvaro Morata.

Player Ratings:CHELSEA

Chelsea

Thibaut CourtoisCHELSEA

Produced a moment of sublime goalkeeping to save Granit Xhaka’s thunderbolt from range, and was sharp to react to Mohamed Elneny’s cross-turned-shot from an angle. Couldn’t do too much for Arsenal’s equaliser and, after stepping up to take Chelsea’s second penalty, sent it flying into the stands of Wembley Stadium.

6.5/10

Cesar Azpilicuetachelsea

Doesn’t make many mistakes over the course of a season, but made one early when he hesitated on the ball and allowed Danny Welbeck to nip ahead of him near the half-way line. Yellow carded for a subsequent tactical foul.

6/10

David Luizchelsea

Beaten too easily for pace by Alex Iwobi in the first half, allowing him to dart past him and put in a cross. Made up for it with ice-cool composure in his own penalty box later on, flicking the ball over Danny Welbeck’s head and nodding it back to Courtois.

6/10

Gary Cahillchelsea

Easily Chelsea’s best defender, keeping the ball well and winning the knock-down for Victor Moses’ goal. Stepped up first for Chelsea from the spot and ended up as their only player to convert in the shootout.

7/10

Victor Moseschelsea

His awareness and concentration helped him put Chelsea into the lead after the break, and continues to show why Antonio Conte has put so much faith in him at right wing-back.

7/10

Marcos Alonsochelsea

Struggled to get involved in attacking phases, connecting with only 16 of his 28 attempted passes, but was Chelsea’s most prevalent tackler – with three.

6/10

Cesc Fabregaschelsea

Didn’t have a huge impact on the game but was as incisive as ever with his passing, splitting the Arsenal defence with a brilliant through ball in the first half.

6.5/10

N’Golo Kantechelsea

The Frenchman was efficient with his ball use, maintaining a 93% passing accuracy ratio – the highest of his starting Chelsea teammates – and made a few important tackles.

7/10

Willianchelsea

An ineffective display from Chelsea’s usually dynamic Brazilian; Willian completed no dribbles, no tackles, no shots at goal and was dispossessed three times – the joint-most on the pitch, alongside Michy Batshuayi. He did nearly find Alvaro Morata with a brilliant outside-of-the-boot pass late in the second half, though.

5/10

Pedrochelsea

Tidy in possession and Chelsea’s biggest threat going forward, completing two successful dribbles and stinging the palms of Petr Cech with a left-foot drive in the first half. Was rightly sent off for an awful studs-up challenge on Mohamed Elneny late on.

6.5/10

Michy Batshuayichelsea

Has looked solid in pre-season and would be desperate to prove to his boss that he is more than just a bench player, but failed to impress in a peripheral outing against The Gunners.

5.5/10

Substitutes:

Alvaro Moratachelsea

His aerial capabilities were well displayed in a short cameo appearance off the bench, winning more headers than any other player on the pitch (and nearly scoring from one), but his disappointing penalty miss will be an easy headline-writer for the media.
