Eight hopeful European sides have discovered what will be required of them to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after Tuesday’s Playoff Draw in Zurich, Switzerland.

Northern Ireland were the first nation drawn at random, with Michael O’Neill’s troops having to deal with the highest FIFA ranked side in the playoff pool: Switzerland.

Croatia were paired with EURO 2004 winners Greece, while Denmark will go in search of their fifth appearance at a World Cup when they meet Ireland in the two-legged playoff.

That left Sweden to take on 2006 World Cup winners Italy in the last match-up.

The first leg will take place between November 9-11, while the second leg will take place a few days later on November 12-14.
