Harry Kane’s fine form for Tottenham has returned him September’s English Premier League Player of the Month Award.

The back-to-back Golden Boot winner scored six league goals in September – all of which came in braces against Huddersfield Town, West Ham and Everton.

This is the fifth time that the 24-year-old has been named Player of the Month in the Premier League, equalling the tallies of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, while he is one shy of record-holder Steven Gerrard – and the significance of the feat is not lost on him.

“It’s great to be up there with those sorts of names,” said Harry Kane in an interview for Tottenham’s official website.

Steven Gerrard’s repeated Liverpool heroics returned him six Premier League Player of the Month awards throughout his career – the most since the award’s inception in 1994.

“I didn’t score for the whole of August and the first game in September I put a cross in and it went all the way in, but that’s football, that’s the game and sometimes you’ve just got to go with it.”

Fellow in-form strikers Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero were all in the running for the award, as were Kevin De Bruyne, Pascal Gross and Jamal Lascelles.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was named Manager of the Month after guiding his side to a 100% September record, leaving them at the top of the table after seven games, while Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia won the Goal of the Month Award for a thunderous volley against Everton.
