Aaron Mooy was a key player for Huddersfield Town last season, often controlling the tempo of play from deep midfield positions. He held his nerve in two penalty shootouts during Huddersfield’s playoff games, first against Sheffield Wednesday in the Semi-Final, and once again against Reading in the Final.

Mooy never appeared for Manchester City since his signing last summer, but took the Championship by storm with David Wagner’s Huddersfield, winning the club’s Player of the Year award and a spot in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

“Aaron (Mooy) is the heart of our team,” said Wagner.

“When you consider how much he’s been involved with the Australian national team, with all the travelling and time differences and things like that, it’s been a very tough season for him but he’s still able to deliver his best.”

Mooy is currently in Russia with the Australian national team for the Confederations Cup.

He made 51 appearances and scored four goals with Huddersfield in what was his return season to England since departing Bolton Wanderers, where he played as a youth, in 2010.

The former Melbourne City midfielder is set to become Australia’s most expensive footballer, toppling the record held by both Mark Viduka (Celtic to Leeds for £6 million) and Brad Smith (Liverpool to Bournemouth for £6 million).
