Inter Milan and Arsenal are weighing up moves for Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic in the winter transfer window.
Their reported interest in the former Torino man is emanating from Italian sports magazine Guerin Sportivo, who believe the 25-year-old’s inactivity at Napoli could lead to a move away from the club.
The Serbia international has started just one game in Serie A and one in the UEFA Champions League this season.
He played the full 90 minutes in Serbia’s final World Cup Qualifying game against Georgia, but will want to ensure consistent playing time at club level to secure a starting berth at next year’s tournament in Russia.
A move to domestic rivals Inter Milan would likely see him deployed on the bench, as the Nerazzurri defence has been breached just three times from seven league games – the best record in the league – with Joao Miranda and new signing Milan Skriniar forming an immense defensive partnership.
As for Arsenal, they reinforced their defence over the summer with the addition of versatile defender Sead Kolasinac, but will need to start thinking about a replacement for Per Mertesacker; the 33-year-old has already announced that he will retire at the end of the campaign and continue with the club as the head of their academy.
