Chelsea legend John Terry will drop down to the Championship in his first permanent move away from the club he joined as a 14-year-old.
The 36-year-old, who has scored in 17 successive Premier League seasons, will sign for Aston Villa.
John Terry’s departure from Chelsea was met with several offers across England and abroad, but Aston Villa have won the race to sign the former England international, with Villa boss Steve Bruce believed to play a significant role in convincing Terry to come down to the Championship.
Terry signs a one-year deal with the Midlands club containing potential bonuses should he help them with promotion back to the Premier League.
Though he enjoyed his fifth Premier League title last season, Terry played a role of little-to-no importance, starting just six league games.
Needless to say, that’s a completely unfamiliar situation for Terry, who has accumulated a staggering 717 appearances and 67 goals for The Blues, winning every important trophy there was to win in a glorious 22-year association with the club.
Terry will travel to Portugal in the next few days to link up with his new teammates on pre-season training camp.
