AC Milan officially announced the signing of Juventus centre-half Leonardo Bonucci on Friday.
News of the Rossoneri’s interest in Bonucci broke only days ago with reports suggesting their speculative efforts were unlikely to be met with any success.
Yet the 70-time capped Italian international is now just a medical away from being declared an AC Milan player following a €42 million transfer, and joins the seven-time Champions League winners on a five-year deal.
The 30-year-old is one of Europe’s most technically gifted centre-halves, often starting moves from deep with his long-range diagonal passes, and played a key role in Juventus’ sixth straight Serie A title last season.
Rumours of Leonardo Bonucci and Massimiliano Allegri not being on the best of terms with each others appears to have played a part in the haste of the transfer, and also the unusual sight of Juventus selling such a crucial player to a direct rival.
Leonardo Bonucci will be AC Milan’s eighth major signing of the summer window, and looks set to be followed by Lazio’s Lucas Biglia, who joins for €17 million.
