Barcelona have announced the contract extension of Argentine talisman Lionel Messi until June 30, 2021.
Messi agreed to a four-year contract that many Spanish reports suggest includes a €300 million (£263 million) release clause.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is believed to earn in excess of €550,000 per week from the new deal.
“This is great news not just for Barca fans, but for the football world in general,” said Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
“Leo Messi’s story is one of loyalty and commitment. He’s the greatest player in football history and has been at Barca since he was just 13. And the story continues.”
Messi is expected to put pen to paper on July 15, when he returns from his holiday for the start of pre-season.
