Burkina Faso striker Bertrand Traore is keeping the door open for a Chelsea return after a £9 million exit for Olympique Lyonnais in June.

Speaking with The Daily Mail, the 22-year-old revealed he still hopes of turning out for The Blues in a second spell with the club, much akin to the actions of Didier Drogba and David Luiz.

“Going from Chelsea was the best decision for me,” said Traore.

“As a young player, you can only improve if you are playing every week. I enjoyed my time at Chelsea and when I had opportunities to show what I could do on the pitch, I took them with both hands. But there weren’t any guarantees I would play.”

Although Bertrand Traore is still building a name for himself at club level, the 22-year-old is well versed with the international stage; Traore already has 42 caps for Burkina Faso, where he became a full international at just 15 years of age, and has represented them at three African Cup of Nation tournaments.

Bertrand Traore debuted for Chelsea in September 2015, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA Champions League.

In total, he made 16 appearances for The Blues – just four of them being starts – and scored four times before being loaned out to Ajax ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Asked on whether he would be open to another spell with the six-time league champions, Traore said, “Why not? It is up to me to develop and progress as a player and prove that I am good enough to play in the Premier League.”

“Others went back, it is a possibility.”

Traore was able to earn regular first-team football on loan in Holland last season, the country where he made his professional debut in another loan spell, with Vitesse in 2014.

However, at Ajax, Traore was not limited to just domestic competition. On top of nine league goals the Burkina Faso striker added four UEFA Europa League strikes en route to a Final appearance against Manchester United.
