Pep Guardiola’s restructuring of Manchester City has begun with news that AS Monaco’s Bernardo Silva will be joining the club.

The Ligue 1 winner is reported to have costed the Sky Blues €50 million (£43.6 million), and will link up with his new teammates on July 1.

Manchester City fans were given a first-hand sample of Bernardo Silva’s talents over two legs in the Champions League, when Silva’s Monaco eliminated Pep Guardiola’s side from the competition.

Silva was a key player in Leonardo Jardim’s dangerous attacking unit, registering eight goals and nine assists from 37 appearances in Ligue 1, and contributed a further goal and two assists from his 11 outings in Monaco’s Champions League campaign.

The Portuguese international is a product of Benfica’s youth system, but only ever played three games for the first team, before he was sent on loan to Monaco in 2014.

His talents were no secret, though, as shown through his efforts in the Portuguese Under 19 squad for the 2013 European Championships, where reporters voted him amongst the top ten prospects as he played a pivotal role in their run to the Semi-Finals.

Silva proved himself in just five months at Monaco, who made the move permanent, and the five-foot-eight technician has gone on to make 145 appearances for Les Rogues et Blancs, scoring 28 times.

“To be honest, I’m now at one of the best teams in the world,” said the 22-year-old.

“I’m very happy to be part of Manchester City’s team and I look forward to trying to do my best to help the team reach their goals.”

“Of course, when you have the opportunity of being trained by Pep Guardiola, you don’t say no.”

Manchester City could be the Premier League side to have made the most changes by the time of the opening weekend of the 2017/18 season, as Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Jesus Navas, Gael Clichy and Willy Caballero have all left the club.
