Long-time Real Madrid centre-half Pepe will depart in the summer, available on a free transfer after revealing he will move on following the expiration of his contract.

“It is clear that I will not continue at Real Madrid,” said Pepe.

The 34-year-old’s contract will expire at the end of the month, and he was believed to have requested a two-year extension with the European Champions, but Real were unwilling to offer anything more than a one-year deal.

“They offered me a one year deal. They do not give two years to players over 33.”

Pepe lifted his third Champions League trophy after the victory over Juventus, but played no part in the final. He did not feature in any of Real Madrid’s final 13 games of the season after suffering broken ribs in the La Liga draw against Atletico Madrid in early April.

“There are ways of talking and negotiating. Real Madrid’s behaviour has not been correct.”

A frustrated Pepe added that he was fit to return to the squad for the final La Liga game of the season and Champions League Final, but was not contacted by anyone at the club.

“With Zidane, we did not say goodbye properly. Zidane and Madrid knew I was going before I did.”

A range of clubs across the world have been monitoring Pepe throughout the season, namely Hebei Fortune of China, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, but nothing has yet been confirmed.

“I am looking forward to playing for another club and giving everything. I have offers, not just PSG or Inter, also from England.”

After joining from Porto in 2007, Pepe has become almost synonymous with Real Madrid, making over 300 appearances in a ten-year spell that has yielded three La Liga titles, three Champions League titles, two Copa del Rey titles and two Club World Cup crowns.

Injuries have slowed the veteran defender down this season, though, making just 18 appearances in all competitions.

The Portuguese international played a key role in his nation’s Euro 2016 triumph, winning the Man of the Match award in the Final against France.
