A Stamford Bridge victory over Chelsea continues to prove the title credentials of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, while Manchester United’s dominant start to the season continued with a 4-0 hammering of lowly Crystal Palace. Expect players from both sides to take up a hefty chunk of this week’s Premier League Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper

premier league team of the weekFraser Forster – Southamptonpremier league team of the week

Though the Englishman was beaten on two occasions in a losing effort against Stoke City, his performance ensured Southampton had every chance of walking away from the Britannia with something. Made five saves, one of which was from a Saido Berahino penalty to keep Southampton in the game.

Defenders

premier league team of the weekBen Davies – Tottenhampremier league team of the week

A lively outing for the Welshman in Tottenham’s dismissal of Huddersfield Town. Had acres of space to charge into unmarked before applying a simple finish, and made an impact on the final score once again when his clipped cross found the onrushing Moussa Sissoko.

premier league team of the weekStephen Ward – Burnleypremier league team of the week

Burnley’s defence as a whole deserves credit for keeping a clean sheet against Everton at Goodison Park, but Stephen Ward stands out just enough to earn a spot in our Premier League Team of the Week by contributing at both ends of the park. Grabbed the match-winning assist, put in two challenges, made two interceptions and two key passes.

premier league team of the weekJohn Stones – Manchester Citypremier league team of the week

An assured performance from the often lambasted John Stones. Put in three tackles, won four headers, made two interceptions and five clearances, but more importantly, kept his composure under pressure from the likes of Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard to maintain a ridiculous 97.6% passing ratio – missing just two of 82 attempted passes.

premier league team of the weekFabian Delph – Manchester Citypremier league team of the week

Certainly not first-choice at left back by any stretch of the imagination, but Fabian Delph has shown why he just might provide ample cover after a convincing display at Stamford Bridge. Made more tackles than any other player on the pitch (5), made three interceptions and found a teammate with 92.1% of his passes en route to a clean sheet.

Midfielders

premier league team of the weekKevin De Bruyne – Manchester Citypremier league team of the week

Came back to haunt his former club by forcing the game’s decisive moment; hammering home a missile from outside the area on his supposed weak foot after a nice link-up with Gabriel Jesus. Made more key passes than any player on the pitch (6).

premier league team of the weekMarouane Fellaini – Manchester Unitedpremier league team of the week

Much-maligned Belgian brute Marouane Fellaini hit back at his critics once again with a fine display against Crystal Palace. He netted two poachers efforts, put in more tackles than any other player on the pitch (4) and made three interceptions – all while holding up a 90.4% passing accuracy ratio.

premier league team of the weekRicharlison – Watfordpremier league team of the week

Perhaps the greatest all-round performance in this week’s Premier League Team of the Week came from Watford’s Richarlison. The Brazilian was involved in seemingly every bit of action from the 2-2 draw with West Brom; he laid on two key passes, one of which was an assist, completed two dribbles, laid on three tackles and went on to head home the equalising goal with just seconds remaining.

Forwards

premier league team of the weekMarcus Rashford – Manchester Unitedpremier league team of the week

The teenager oozed confidence in Manchester United’s comfortable win at home to Crystal Palace. Completely sold Joel Ward in the build up to his assist for Juan Mata and notched another when his free-kick found the head of Marouane Fellaini.

premier league team of the weekHarry Kane – Tottenhampremier league team of the week

Netted a brace so typical of his recent form in Tottenham’s 4-0 victory over Huddersfield Town. Made no mistake in taking advantage of the space behind him for the first goal, beating the goalkeeper at his near post, and curled his second in on his left foot with consummate ease. Has found his feet after a quiet start to the season.

premier league team of the weekAlexis Sanchez – Arsenalpremier league team of the week

A quick piece of skill and thinking from the Chilean created the chance for Alex Iwobi to put Arsenal 2-0 up against Brighton & Hove Albion. Made six key passes overall, completed four dribbles and even put in a few challenges. All that was missing was a goal to show for his efforts.
