One of the greatest-ever Premier League strikers could return to English soil next season, with Crystal Palace plotting a move for Robin van Persie.

The two-time Golden Boot winner enjoyed successful spells with Arsenal and Manchester United, creating a huge controversy when switching from the former to the latter in 2012.

Robin van Persie is one of only two players to win consecutive Golden Boots with two different clubs. The other is the greatest goalscorer in Premier League history, Alan Shearer, who did so with Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United

Robin van Persie departed Manchester United for Fenerbahce in 2015, where he has gone on to win the Turkish Super Lig and score 36 goals in 83 appearances across two seasons.

However, frustration mounted for the Dutchman last season after infrequent playing time, with only 14 of his 24 Super Lig appearances coming from the starting line-up.

Crystal Palace are being rumoured as favourites to sign the Dutchman, who are now under the watch of his compatriot Frank de Boer.

The former Inter Milan boss, who was let go by the Italians in November last year, has already stated his intention of spending big in hope of solidifying Crystal Palace as a Premier League club.

“It’s a club that can still grow further and further because every club in the Premier League can spend a lot of money,” said de Boer.

“So, there is the possibility to do something well with that money.”

While Robin van Persie is past his peak years and will be 34 years old by the opening weeking in the Premier League, his scoring ratio suggests he could offer significant help to a Crystal Palace side heavily reliant on Christian Benteke’s goals last season.
