Lukaku’s goal-scoring since leaving Chelsea has been phenomenal; the Belgian striker has netted 103 goals in 203 appearances for West Brom and Everton.

Negotiations have taken place between Chelsea and Lukaku’s entourage over a summer move, with The Blues eager to sort out a replacement in case Diego Costa leaves for China.

Chelsea will discuss terms with Everton in the coming days. A transfer fee in the region of £70 million is expected to be agreed upon.

The Belgian striker has been the at the centre of speculation after enjoying his most prolific season to date, leading the Premier League goal-scoring charts with 24 strikes in 36 appearances for The Toffees.

Lukaku has been vocal about what he wants to achieve in his career and feels a move to a Champions League club will give him the platform to take his game to the next level.

“I need a platform where I can show myself constantly in the big games because now I am scoring over the last five or six seasons all the time in the Premier League,” said Lukaku during an interview with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

“I consider myself one of the best strikers in this league, 100 per cent, but I want to show it as well on the biggest stage in the near future.”

An 18-year-old Romelu Lukaku was picked up by Chelsea from Anderlecht for £17 million in 2011, where he would go on to make just 15 appearances before being sent out on loans to West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

The latter of those loan moves became permanent in 2014 when Everton splashed £28 million. Lukaku has fulfilled much of the potential that Chelsea initially saw in him with the Merseyside club, becoming their top goal-scorer in the Premier League era.
