Everton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that English midfielder Ross Barkley will leave the club in the summer.

Ahead of a Europa League 3rd Round Qualifier against Slovakian outfit Ruzomberok, Koeman spoke candidly with the press on the situation surrounding the 23-year-old.

“We made a really good offer to him (Ross Barkley) to sign a new contract. He declined,” said Koeman.

“He told me that he is looking for a new challenge.”

Ross Barkley joined Everton as an 11-year-old, playing his way through the youth teams from 2005 until 2010. He made his senior debut in August 2011 after recovering from a broken leg, and went on to make 179 appearances for the club, scoring 27 times

Koeman went on to say that while he ‘100%’ expects Barkley to leave in the summer, that there are currently no offers on the table.

Everton were reportedly aiming for a sale of £50 million for Ross Barkley, which could prove difficult considering the lack of options and the fact that he is currently in the last 12 months of his contract.

The Toffees have been the most active Premier League club in the transfer market thus far, adding no less than six players to the first-team set up, whilst also recouping a hefty chunk of fees spent with the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.
